BRITISH ARMY DELIVER URBAN OPERATIONS TRAINING IN GHANA Over the past month, British troops have been helping to train Ghanaian soldiers to counter threats from violent extremist organisations. Soldiers from the British Army have been working with their Ghanaian Partner Force in Accra to deliver tactical and conceptual training in support of regional stability. This included troops from the Ghanaian Army’s 64th Infantry Bn and 69th Airborne Force, who currently provide a national security role in Ghana, and are looking to expand their capabilities as an expeditionary Task Force. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has clarified its role in the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary elections, emphasising that no military personnel will be stationed at polling stations on election day.

In a statement released on December 1, ahead of the elections, GAF noted that the military will only be deployed upon a formal request from the Ghana Police Service to handle specific situations requiring additional security reinforcements.

According to GAF, this collaborative approach underscores a commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring that the electoral process is free from undue interference.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining national security and peace during this critical democratic exercise, GAF wishes to reiterate that no military personnel will be stationed at any polling station. GAF’s presence will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security remaining with the Ghana Police Service (GPS).

Elections proceed smoothly and peacefully while law and order are maintained.

“The military’s role, as outlined, will be limited to standby support, with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) taking the lead in ensuring security at polling stations.

GAF has urged the public to remain vigilant to prevent the impersonation or unauthorised appearances of individuals claiming to be military personnel.

“In the spirit of transparency and to prevent any misunderstandings, we encourage the public to report any
military personnel, individual(s) identifying themselves as GAF personnel or any individual(s) wearing
military-patterned attire/accoutrements found at any polling station to the nearest Police Station or call the
