Repent and recharge: Christians urged to embrace God’s gift

Rev. Benjamin Oppong, Head Pastor of Mount Horeb Victorious Church, has encouraged Christians and other religious bodies to embrace and utilize the God-given gift of repentance, enabling them to live in harmony with all.

In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, Rev. Oppong stressed that even Satan lacks the gift of repentance, making it a unique opportunity for humanity to seek forgiveness and redemption. He encouraged all to wisely utilize this divine gift.

“God sometimes, in His anger, rebuked His people and took away the grace of repentance from them. Humans possess the spirit of repentance, being made in the likeness of God. Satan would have repented long ago if he had that spirit,” he revealed.”

“Judas Iscariot, after realizing and accepting his mistake and seeing how Jesus was mistreated, showed remorse and repented by returning the money he had received for betraying Jesus,” Rev. Oppong added.

On his part, Muhammad Hussain Acquah, Head of T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School in Tema and National Ansarullah Preaching Secretary of Ghana, stated that the Holy Quran emphasizes in Chapter 3 that seeking forgiveness means turning to Allah to seek pardon for past sins.

He further explained that regret is a short-term aspect of repentance, while long-term repentance involves abandoning sinful ways altogether. He added that, as the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) rightly said, sincere repentance requires three conditions: stopping the sin, feeling regret, and abandoning sinful ways.

Mary Bright Coffie, an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Practitioner, added that being in a relationship with emotionally immature partners and struggling to balance things can lead to backing out due to incompatibility.

She noted that when an offender shows no remorse for past actions in relationships, it can lead to separation, as one cannot hold onto past hurts and must move forward.

“In such cases, it’s essential to prioritize self-care and set boundaries to prevent further emotional harm,” she emphasized. “Recognizing the signs of emotional immaturity, such as lack of accountability, inconsistency, and disregard for boundaries, can help individuals make informed decisions about their relationships and take steps towards a healthier and more fulfilling partnership.
