“Quality Teacher Is Dependent On Resources Available”- GNAT

The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Madam Philippa Larson has indicated that, the ability to provide a quality teacher or teaching is mainly dependent on the kind of resources available to the teacher to become a quality teacher.

According to Madam Larson, every teacher has the required skills needed to be a quality teacher because of the quality training the teacher has gain from his or her college of education.

Madam Larson made this known in an interview with the host of PLAN B FM’s Socio-political show dubbed Ebanosen, Bohyeba Kwabena Afriyie.

“When we talk about quality teacher, it is dependent on the resources available because ones you go through the initial training at the college of education level, you are trained to teach, so if there are lack of teaching and learning materials it makes work difficult”, she said.

“It is not that there are no quality teachers but if there are no materials it is a problem for quality teaching”, she added.

Madam Philippa Larson, indicated that, the Ghana Education Service (GES) needs to organize seminars frequently to perfect teachers to meet a standard level.

“Day in and day out the world is moving forward and teachers needs to be trained regularly not to be behind, because each and every day new things comes up, so at least GES must organize seminars every six (6) months to improve the ability of teachers”, she said.
