Prophet Warns: ”Gambling Epidemic Could Cripple Hardworking Youth in 10-15 Years”

Prophet Ebenezer Dunamis, Head Pastor of Army of God Revival Centre, has called on the government to tackle the skyrocketing issue of youth involvement in gambling addiction, predicting a potential decline in hardworking youth within the next 10-15 years.

In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, Prophet Dunamis stated that the youth are in peril due to the devastating impact of gambling addiction, which must be controlled. “Gambling, be it compulsory or any other form, could destroy the youth’s work ethic, and they are full of faith, even more than Christians,” he revealed.

He further attributed the NPP’s loss in the 2024 election to the betting tax, which many young people, heavily involved in gambling, voted against.

“The NPP’s main reason for their loss in the 2024 election is as a result of the betting tax, which many young people voted against, because many of them were into it,” he said.

Lady Marilyn Abeka-Daniels, an adjunct lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication’s Institute of Journalism (UNIMAC-IJ), concurred that gambling addiction is a mental health concern that requires attention.

“Gambling addiction is a mental health concern and must be catered for,” she said.

“Some students in second-cycle institutions have been able to access the tablets and other gadgets provided for them and are now using them as tools for gambling,” she noted.

“Don’t be proud of yourself for winning bets, as only a few winners make good use of their winnings,” she advised.
