Prophet Isaac Asante, the Head Pastor of Rhema Prayer Ministry, has sparked a thought-provoking conversation with his bold stance on excuses. According to him, excuses should only be given when they can save one’s life or prevent harm, rather than as a habitual means of escape.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s “Nyansapɔ Fie” programme with host Odiamono Kwaku Gyimah, Prophet Asante emphasised that excuses can hinder growth and progress. “Excuses can be a hindrance, often stemming from laziness or a lack of commitment,” he stated.
“Timing and preparation are indeed crucial, and focusing on one’s strengths can help build confidence and momentum.”
The cleric’s views were supported by Mary Bright Abelenma Coffie, a youth counsellor, fashion designer and Alternative Dispute Resolution expert, who highlighted the importance of communication and empathy in relationships.
She noted that using tiredness as an excuse to avoid responsibilities can be frustrating and hurtful for partners, and encouraged couples to discuss their needs and boundaries.
Muhammad Hussain Acquah, Headteacher of T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School and National Preaching Secretary of Ansarullah Ghana, added a spiritual perspective, emphasising the importance of intentions in determining the value of actions.
“A test from Allah requires patience, and convenience excuses can be a trick of the self, holding us back from making progress and fulfilling our potential,” he said.
The discussion has sparked a renewed focus on personal responsibility, self-awareness, and accountability, encouraging individuals to re-examine their approach to excuses and goal-achievement.
