A recent interview with Elorm Kupomey, an Investigator at the Tema Sub-Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has highlighted the importance of promoting peace and understanding in Ghanaian society.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme “Nyansapɔ Fie” with host Odiamono Kwaku Gyimah, Kupomey discussed various topics, including domestic violence, child development, and the role of public officials in promoting peace.
She emphasised the significance of words in shaping relationships and promoting peace. Verbal abuse can be a form of domestic violence, and words can have a lasting impact on individuals, particularly children. Substance abuse is no excuse for harmful behaviour, and individuals must be held responsible for their actions.
The CHRAJ Investigator highlighted the importance of positive reinforcement and encouraging words in child development. Words can either build or destroy a child’s confidence and self-esteem. Parents and guardians must be mindful of their words and actions.
Kupomey stressed the importance of public officials providing accurate information and promoting peace in their dealings. Misrepresentation can lead to conflicts and undermine trust in institutions. Public officials must be mindful of their words and actions, as they can have a significant impact on the public.
In discussing the purpose of punishment, she emphasised the importance of rehabilitation and restorative justice. Punishment should not only be about penalising individuals but also about correcting and reforming them. Fines can be an option, but the ultimate goal is to help individuals become better persons.
By being mindful of our words and actions, we can build stronger relationships and create a more harmonious society. Kupomey’s interview has highlighted the importance of promoting peace and understanding in Ghanaian society.
