An Associate Finance Professor at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Legon, Vera Ogeh Fiador, has made history as the first female President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) following her election on August 5, 2025.
Professor Fiador succeeds Prof Mamudu A Akudugu after his two-year tenure as UTAG president.
She was sworn into office at the 22nd UTAG Biennial Congress at Aburi in the Eastern Region on Tuesday September 30, 2025.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, Professor Fiador was also the first woman in Ghana to attain the rank of Professor of Finance.
“Professor Vera Ogeh Fiador (née Soli) first achieved a historic milestone by becoming Ghana’s first female full Professor of Finance.
“Her promotion marked a significant breakthrough for women in academia and the finance profession in Ghana,” it stated.
Here is a brief profile of Professor Fiador
Professor Fiador who joined the UGBS in 2008, holds a PhD in Finance from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Her expertise lies in the areas of corporate governance, corporate finance, gender diversity, enterprise risk management, environmental and social risk management.
Professor Fiador is a member of the African Economic Research Consortium and was a visiting Scholar at the IMF, Washington DC.
