Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has donated four months of her salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares, as a show of solidarity with the initiative aimed at easing the burden of chronic disease treatment in the country.

President John Dramani Mahama announced the gesture during his national address on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, which highlighted progress under his 120-Day Social Contract with Ghanaians.

“On April 29, 2025, I officially launched the Fund at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where I pledged six months of my salary as my contribution. Vice President Naana Jane also pledged four months of her salary to the Mahama Cares Fund,” he stated.

President Mahama also made a passionate appeal to the general public, “I encourage every Ghanaian to contribute as you are willing and able. The short code for contributions is available across all mobile networks.”

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is designed to provide specialist treatment support for chronic illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and stroke.

The initiative is expected to help bridge a critical gap in Ghana’s healthcare system, where the cost of advanced care remains unaffordable for many citizens
