The New Patriotic Party’s James W. Tamakloe, aka KJV of the Tema West Constituency, has lambasted President John Mahama’s code of ethics for appointees, describing it as superfluous and merely reiterating existing constitutional provisions.
Appearing on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm programme with host Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi, Tamakloe expressed scepticism about the initiative, branding it a wasteful exercise and a publicity stunt.
“In my view, this is nothing more than a public spectacle and a waste of time,” he stated.
“The President was elected to tackle the country’s problems, not to regurgitate ethics already enshrined in the Constitution. A simple circular to appointees would have sufficed.”
However, Christian Afetor Dela, Communications Officer for the Tema West Constituency’s NDC, disagreed.
“Although the code of ethics may be enshrined in the Constitution, it’s still necessary to remind appointees of their responsibilities and expectations,” Dela said.
“Just because something is in the Constitution doesn’t mean we shouldn’t reinforce it. This code serves as a reinforcement of those expectations and helps promote accountability and transparency in governance.”
Dela added that regular reminders are necessary to ensure public officials adhere to high standards of ethics and integrity.
