President Announces Extension Of Free Electricity Till End Of Year

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed the extension of free electricity supply to lifeline tariff customers until the end of the year 2020.

Addressing Ghanaians for the first time since he resumed office from a 14-day self-isolation prescribed by doctors since one of his inner circle was found to have contracted the coronavirus, President Akufo-Addo noted that his government will review an earlier announcement which was made by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta in Parliament during the reading of the mid-year budget review.

He continued that the Finance Minister announced that all Ghanaians are to enjoy free water supply for another three months; something according to him, his government intends to review at the end of the period.

Perhaps due to the important role they play in the fight against coronavirus, the President announced that incentives for frontline health workers have also been extended for the next three years.

The President’s announcement has been described by many as a huge relief for a lot of Ghanaians who have said that the impact of COVID-19 on the country’s economy has negatively affected their ability to pay for their utilities.
