President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today, Monday, June 21, 2021 paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as part of a-day working visit to the Upper East region.
The President’s working visit was confirmed to the media by Sanusi Issah, the Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bolgatanga. “It is just a day’s working visit,” he told the media during a press briefing ahead of the President’s visit.
Receiving the President in his Palace, the Bawku Naba, who is also President of the Kusaug Traditional Council, Asigir Abugrago Azoka II, says the Chiefs and People of the Kusaug Traditional Area, and, indeed, all Ghanaians appreciate his policies and added it was in his re-election on 7th December 2020.
Addressing a gathering at his palace, the Bawku Naba congratulated President Akufo-Addo on his electoral victory which according to him, has put the destiny of Ghana firmly in the President’s hands for the next four (4) years. He remarked “you have worked hard to earn that enviable position. I wish you God’s continued blessing in wisdom as well as good health to execute your policies.”
“Mr. President, let me express my gratitude to you in respect of development in the traditional area. So far so good, especially in terms of the following Free Senior High School Policy, continuation of the school feeding programme, Youth Employment Programme, One-Village-One-Dam, One-District-One-Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, NABCO, construction of major bridges at Kulgungu and Tamne, and the Bolga-Bawku Road,” the Bawku Naba noted.
He thanked the President for what he termed as significant number of appointees he has chosen from the Kusaug Traditional Area, which include Alhaji Sule Yiremia as Member of the Council of State; Hon. Abdulai Abanga as Deputy Minister for Works and Housing; Hon Fatimatu Abubakar as Deputy Minister for Information; and Mr. Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba as Chief Executive Officer for the National Buffer Stock. Continuing he told the President that he was hopeful that other more appointments from the Traditional Area would be made.
Speaking to the issue of insecurity in and around Burkina Faso, the Paramount chief mentioned that the situation gives him together with his a cause to worry adding that proximity wise Bawku is closer to Burkina Faso. He told the President that recent information indicates that some terrorists have infiltrated the country’s borders.”
He appealed to the president to use all means possible to prevent a spillage of the conflict into his traditional area. “So far, our security services have proved equal to the task and deserve to be encouraged to do more by being highly alert,” he remarked.
The President in his remarks thanked the Bawku Naba for welcoming him to his Palace. He noted that he has the welfare of Ghanaians irrespective of which part of the country they come from, at heart. He said the tour was first to afford him the chance observe the level of works currently taking place in different parts of the country by government.
He promised that he will continue to do his best for the country adding that it the very reason Ghanaians re-elected him as President to continue his good works in his second term.
Earlier on in Bolgatanga, Mr. Sanusi Issha, the Upper East Regional Communication Officer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a media briefing told media men that the President’s itinerary include paying a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II in the Bawku Municipality.
The NPP Communication Officer continued that the President was expected to inspect some construction works on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road currently taking place.
He further pointed out that the President also as part of the visit, met with Party elders and patrons in the Region after which he addressed a durbar of Chiefs and people of the Binduri Traditional Area.
President Akufo-Addo also commissioned a newly constructed District Assembly complex at Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District.
The President has since left Upper East region for the North East Region to continue his visit to the North.
