After news emerged that founder and former Presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is not running for president in this year’s general election, three persons within the party have picked up nomination forms to contest as flagbearers of the party.
The three persons are Brigitte Dzogbenuku, Paa Kwesi Nduom’s former running mate in the 2016 general elections, William Dowokpor and a United States of America (USA) based physician, Dr Francis Obeng.
The party’s general secretary Paa Know Ackon, in an earlier interaction with the media, revealed that discussions have been held and added that plans were in place to select a flagbearer by the end of the month.
According to him the party has been working on a few things to ensure that it is very much ready for the general elections in December. He continued that the party has announced that it has opened nominations for all aspiring candidates to pick a form at the cost of GH¢ 5,000 and a filling fee of GH¢2,000.
He pointed out that it is the decision of the national committee of the party that by August 21, 2020, all persons who have picked forms should be able to file them by the aforementioned date and quickly added that the party hopes to finalize all the processes and have a candidate by August 31, 2020.
“Those who have publicly shown interest and have picked forms include our 2016 running mate, Brigitte. I have also heard that one William has also picked forms and filed. There is one physician in the US, Dr. Francis Obeng who has sent someone to pick forms for him”, Mr. Paa Kow Ackon remarked.
