A popular businessman, Teye Emmanuel, nicknamed ‘Ghana Bar’ and believed to be in his 40s, was allegedly killed by a supposed mentally unstable young man at Yilo Krobo’s district capital, Somanya, in the Eastern Region on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

According to reports available to Angelonline.com.gh, the tragedy occurred at the Akutunya Lorry Station between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00 PM.

The accused, whose name was only given as Dodji and believed to be in his early 30s, is reported to be mentally unstable and regarded as ‘notorious’ in the area.

Reporting the circumstances leading to the incident, Jaman Dehye Opambour stated that on that fateful day, the suspect, who is mentally challenged, was spotted at the Akutunya Lorry Station where the deceased operated a local eatery [chop bar] and a drinking bar.

Dodji’s presence coincided with a misunderstanding that arose during a usual Sunday susu savings meeting involving Mr. Teye and other group members.

In the turn of events, the mentally challenged man began walking in the direction of the group’s money-saving box. This prompted the group to chase him away to safeguard their money, as detailed by the reporter.

While being chased out of the lorry station, Dodji gave the group predominated by men stiffer opposition and refused to heed their order.

Lo and behold, the suspect finally walked out, but Ghana Bar is said to have keenly followed him while chasing him with an electric cable, despite being advised to reconsider his actions and return.

During the incident, the suspect allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed Ghana Bar multiple times, resulting in his death despite the efforts of staff at the Somanya New District Hospital to save him.

“Unknowingly in possession of a scissor, this supposedly mentally challenged Dodji pulled it and stabbed Ghana Bar three times—in the heart, in the head, and in the rib—causing him to fall unconscious. He was rushed to Somanya New District Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead,” the reporter explained.

The lifeless body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue with police taking up the matter for investigations and further actions.

After allegedly committing the crime, Dodji escaped the scene but was later found lynched and lying unconscious in a gutter at Ogome Brigade a suburb community of the area early on the morning of Monday, October 21, 2024.

The suspected lynching has been linked to the incident, though it remains unclear and those responsible remain unknown.

He was taken to the Somanya New District Hospital for medical attention and regained consciousness, denying that he stabbed Mr. Teye to death and claiming he knew nothing about the accusations against him.

He further alleged that the real murderer was among the group of men associated with the deceased.

Mr. Teye Emmanuel until his untimely death owned several businesses including an eatery joint, drinking bar, and among others.
