Ex- Ghana U-17 Captain Sebastian Barnes believes Accra Hearts of Oak struggles and their inability to defend their title during the 2021/22 Ghana Premier Leagues season is due to their failure to get the right material during last transfer window.
The Phobians performance was nothing to write home about as they placed 6th in the GPL but managed to defend their MTN FA Cup title in the just ended season failing to repeat the feat they chalked in the previous season.
In an interview with Dan K Pobi ‘Okocha’ on Plan B FM Weekend Sports Show, Sebastian Barnes who once played for the Phobians stated their recruitment let them down.
“I think one major problem they had was that they relaxed a bit with their recruitment. They failed to find perfect replacements for the outgone players after winning the league the previous season. They should have been able to maintain some of the key guys for about three years, then you would be able to have a stable team. But when you lose 2 or more players after just one season and you fail to find perfect replacements for them, it becomes a problem” he stated
Barnes is the Technical Director and European Liaison for Division One League side Young Apostles. Barnes holds a UEFA B coaching certificate.
He has been coaching the U16 side of SC Leverkusen, where he also acts as sports director.
He moved to Germany after captaining the Black Starlets to win the FIFA U17 World Cup in Italy in 1991
He played for Bayer Leverkusen between 1991 to 1997.
