Samuel Aborbi, NDC Communication Team Member for Ashaiman Constituency, has stated that politicians are the cause of lawlessness in Ghana.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm programme with host Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, Aborbi made the assertion, highlighting the role of politicians in perpetuating lawlessness in the country.
He clarified that no one supports lawlessness, citing the example of traders in the Ashaiman market whose activities impede smooth driving and the flow of goods and services.
Aborbi noted that the traders’ practice of selling goods on the roads obstructs drivers and other road users, hindering access.
According to Aborbi, politicians harbour lawlessness because they are often blackmailed during election periods when the continued lawlessness is used as leverage against them. He attributed the challenge to politicians’ selfish interests in power struggles, which hinder the fight against lawlessness. Aborbi urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to take bold action and tackle the issue head-on.
In enforcing the law, Aborbi called for a soft approach to relocating traders from the roadside, appealing to authorities to avoid harassing them.
