Three persons, including a police officer, have been crushed to death in a fatal accident at Odumase Tripple Lane, near Konongo, on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The accident happened when a 4×4 unregistered vehicle, driven by the police officer, identified as George Osei Bretwum, attempted to overtake a vehicle and came into a head on collusion with a 2m Express mini-bus that was travelling towards Accra from Kumasi.

Speaking to The Chronicle, the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Union (MTTU) Commander in charge of the Konongo Division, DSP Paah Yeboah, said all the thirteen passengers in the 2m Express bus, with registration number ER 884-21, sustained various degrees of injuries and were currently responding to treatment at the Konongo Government Hospital.

According to him, the bodies of the two passengers, one of whom was a lady, had been deposited at the Steward Hospital morgue at Yawkwei in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

He said the victims in hospital also include the only two survivors in the car driven by the said police officer whose rank and identity was yet to be known.

This latest road fatality on the Accra-Kumasi highway comes barely a month after a similar accident on the same stretch claimed thirteen lives, with several others injured.

This is the same stretch of road where the convoy of the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, was involved in an accident leading to the death of one of his dispatch riders.
