The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged arms trafficking syndicate operating in Tema and other parts of the country.

In a statement, the Police said the suspect, whose identity has been withheld to protect ongoing investigations, was arrested on July 9, 2026, after allegedly supplying one AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number AZ71551999, a magazine loaded with ten rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and one 9mm automatic pistol.

The recovered weapons and ammunition have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

According to the Police, a total of four firearms have so far been retrieved during the operation. They include two AK-47 assault rifles, bearing serial numbers BABA405817 and AZ71551999, as well as two pistols.

The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.

The Police Service said efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the suspected syndicate as part of measures to dismantle the illegal arms trafficking network operating within Tema and beyond.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to combating organised crime and ensuring the safety and security of the public through sustained intelligence-led operations.
