Briefing the media at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 29, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the Council of State member was attacked by six armed men while travelling on the Tamale–Buipe highway.
She explained that the assailants made away with several personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, a laptop and other items. COP Donkor noted that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the CID Director-General disclosed that five suspects linked to another robbery attack at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region were also arrested on January 16, 2026.
According to her, the suspects—Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe alias Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman and Bukari Sule alias Taylor—together with other accomplices, allegedly blocked the Goaso–Tepa road on December 2, 2025, while armed, and carried out a robbery attack.
COP Donkor urged the public to remain vigilant, prioritise personal safety and avoid sharing sensitive information with strangers, as police continue efforts to curb highway robberies across the country.
