The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has strongly refuted allegations linking President Nana Akufo-Addo’s family to a gold smuggling operation. The allegations, which emerged from media reports, accused the president’s relatives of being involved in exporting unlicensed gold out of Ghana.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, PMMC labeled the story as false and misleading, emphasizing that the company strictly adheres to established protocols for gold exports. According to the statement, PMMC serves as the sole regulator and validator of gold exported from Ghana, ensuring compliance with international standards.
The company clarified that no individual or group linked to the President’s family has been involved in any unlawful gold-related activities. “We operate under strict regulatory guidelines, and all gold exports undergo rigorous validation,” the statement read.
The allegations have sparked public uproar, with critics questioning the government’s commitment to fighting corruption in the extractive sector. However, PMMC urged the public to disregard the claims, describing them as politically motivated attempts to tarnish the image of the President and his administration.
Some political analysts have also criticized the media for publishing the story without proper verification, calling for responsible journalism to maintain public trust.
The PMMC reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations and vowed to cooperate fully with any investigation to prove its innocence. The company has called on all stakeholders to focus on safeguarding Ghana’s gold resources from genuine threats of illegal mining and export.
