The situation has also seen reactions from former captain of the Black Stars Stephen Appiah who has described the situation as “national embarrassment”.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Plan B FM inter-Community Soccer Gala, madam Comfort Aniagyei appealed to stakeholders to address the challenges bedeviling sports particularly football in the country.

“I will use this platform to make an appeal to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana Football Association and all stakeholders who have a responsibility towards football in Ghana. We currently have an embarrassing situation on our hands as a nation where CAF has ruled that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is unfit to host international games. I implore the authorities to fix the dwindling fortunes of Ghana football and the deplorable state of sports facilities in the country” she stated

She further called for the reconstruction of all dilapidated football stadia in the country.

“Most of our stadia scattered across the country are in a state of disrepair. Looking closer home is the Tema Sports Stadium. It’s in dire need of urgent repairs. MrKurt Kraku, Mr Mustapha Ussif, posterity beckons. FIX GHANA FOOTBALL.” she re-iterated

Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA), Chairman Mr. Kojo Fianoo also at the ceremony decried the terrible state of Ghana football especially in the Tema Metropolis. He called for urgent steps to be taken to address the fortunes of football in Ghana.
