Lawyer and politician Ayikoi Otoo has defended the removal of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, stating that the decision was necessary due to widespread dissatisfaction within the police service.
“When the deputy IGP was appointed, it was a signal that somebody was being prepared to take over… People wanted him removed, and our government was expected to act,” he said in an interview on Morning Starr on Starr FM.
Ayikoi Otoo also expressed confidence in the qualifications of the newly appointed IGP, citing his extensive experience in leadership roles within the police service.
However, he stressed that true leadership is not about exercising authority but rather about engaging with subordinates and fostering a collaborative environment.
“Leadership is not about the leader, it’s about those being led. One man cannot claim to have all the wisdom in this world,” he remarked, implying that Dampare’s leadership style may have contributed to his removal.
