An intensified US winter storm is wreaking no less havoc where many have freezed to death inside cars while many others have been languishing in critical condition as on date.

According to reports, the death toll has gone up to 57 and the figure could go up since the people have yet to get out of the blues in many places.
Buffalo, the second-largest city in New York is said to be the worst-hit with a toll of 27 as on Monday morning.

Many people are feared dead when their cars ran out of petrol and the occupants were unable to get a safe place. Many bodies are being dug out of the huge piles of snow.

Numerous fatalities have also been brought on by car pile-ups that smash on icy roadways. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the citry of Buffalo has been turned into a war zone.

According to the National Weather Service, much of the eastern United States will remain in a deep freeze through Monday before a moderating trend sets in on Tuesday.

“It is (like) going to a war zone, and the vehicles along the sides of the roads are shocking,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Storm-related deaths have been recorded in 12 states — Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Wisconsin, Xinhua news agency quoted an NBC News report as saying.
