The Tema-Mpakadan passenger train came to an unexpected halt just a few meters from the railway station after its emergency brake was activated.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Dr. Frederick Appoh, in an interview with Adom News explained that investigations are underway to determine exactly which emergency brake was engaged, though technicians have since confirmed the train remains in working condition.
Some passengers who spoke to said they were stuck inside the coaches for close to 45 minutes in uncomfortable heat.
A few commuters expressed disappointment, noting that such hitches had occurred before during test runs ahead of the train’s launch.
The incident has reignited concerns about reliability on the newly introduced rail service, which many hoped would ease transportation challenges.
