Ghana’s Parliament has taken a significant step towards safeguarding the environment by passing the Environmental Protection Bill. This landmark legislation aims to address pressing environmental issues and promote sustainable development across the nation. The bill, which had been under discussion for several months, received overwhelming support from both sides of the political spectrum.

Lawmakers emphasized the importance of protecting Ghana’s natural resources and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

During the parliamentary session on Thursday, January 2, the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah said, ” Hon. members, the Environmental Protection Bill 2024 is now read for the third time and passed.”

The Environmental Protection Bill includes provisions for stricter regulations on industrial emissions, waste management, and deforestation. It also outlines measures to promote renewable energy sources and encourage eco-friendly practices among businesses and individuals.

The passage of the Environmental Protection Bill marks a new chapter in Ghana’s commitment to environmental stewardship. With this legislation in place, the nation is poised to make significant strides in protecting its natural resources and promoting a sustainable future.
