Mrs Bernice Asante, a paediatrician at Tema General Hospital, has urged parents and guardians to teach their children the importance of covering their mouths and noses when sneezing to prevent the spread of germs.
In an interview on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle show, ‘Nyansapɔ Fie,’ with host Nana Asabea, Mrs Asante stressed the need for parents to instil good hygiene habits in their children.
“As a parent, you play a vital role in teaching your child good hygiene habits to prevent the spread of common colds,” she said. “Teach them to:
Cover their mouths and noses with a tissue or elbow when sneezing
Dispose of tissues properly
Wash their hands frequently with soap and water
Avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth
Stay home when infected with common colds to prevent spreading germs
By instilling these simple habits, you’ll keep your child and those around them healthy and safe from common colds,” Mrs Asante added.
In conclusion, teaching children good hygiene habits from an early age is crucial in preventing the spread of common colds and other illnesses. By following Mrs Asante’s expert advice, parents can help their children develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
