The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recommended the prosecution of staff of the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) over what the Auditor-General’s report captured as “supply of goods and services before awarding of contract” amounting to GH¢360,633.00.
Details of the matter indicate that contrary to Section 43 of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) the the staff of RGD, under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice “procured goods and services from seven suppliers before the award of the contracts.
The Auditor-General’s report also noted that “the minimum of three quotations were not obtained before awarding the contracts.”
Reacting to the decision, the Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah Yeboah who represented the Ministry, admitted to the infringement and accepted that the law should take its course.
The Chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi pronounced that “on that note of admission, I am referring you to court for prosecution.”
Speaking to JoyNews on the sidelines of the hearing on how the prosecution will be done, the Deputy Attorney-General indicated his readiness for prosecution.
He clarified that “since the breach was conducted by a specific staff of the Registrar General’s Department, the Attorney-General’s office is ready to carry on with the prosecution.”
