The Public Accounts Committee has ordered for the Central Regional Free SHS Coordinator, Kingsley Agyemang, to bear the costs of the education ministry’s vehicle stolen from him at gunpoint.

During the Public Accounts Committee meeting on August 1, at the Parliament House, officials from the ministry disclosed that Kingsley Agyemang was robbed at gunpoint by unknown assailants on September 22, 2018.

The robbers reportedly stole the education ministry’s Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number GX 1636-18 while the victim was on a return journey back to Kumasi from a funeral.

The ministry has since failed to retrieve the stolen vehicle nor have they received compensation from the insurance company.

Narrating the robbery incident, the transport manager at the education ministry, Emmanuel Agyare said “The vehicle was used by the Central Regional Coordinator of the Free SHS. The incident happened at Kumasi Kwadaso, and it’s all in the police report.

“He had returned from a funeral, that’s what the report says. At the time he was about to enter his house, Kingsley was attacked by unknown gunmen. Per the report we have, the driver wasn’t harmed, and he reported the incident. The police investigated the matter.”

Chairperson of the committee, James Klutse Avedzitherefore ruled that Kingsley Agyemang be made to pay the difference between the insured value by the insurance company and the current cost of the vehicle.

“We are going to recommend that you continue to pursue the state insurance company. Let them pay, definitely, they will not pay the current value of the vehicle, they pay the insured value minus 10 per cent.

“After you have received that money, the difference between that and the current cost of the vehicle should be borne by Mr. Kingsley Agyemang.”
