Over 20,000 MoMo Agents Blacklisted For False Transactions

Over 20,000 MoMo Agents Blacklisted For False Transactions

About twenty thousand agents have been blacklisted by MTN Mobile Money Limited for creating false transactions and trying to earn commission fraudulently.

Significant success has been achieved in the company’s quest to deal with MoMo fraud though the use of ID cards for MoMo withdrawals, and locking phones of fraudsters has made fraud expensive for the culprits. These measures coupled with their relationship with the police have helped in reducing MoMo fraud significantly.

The CEO of Mobile Money Limited, Mr. Eli Hini, revealed these during the 2021 MoMo Awards held last Saturday in Kumasi.

On the issue of agents falling victim to armed robberies, he revealed that his outfit continues to liaise with the police in their quest to reduce robbery incidents and also fish out culprits.

He also stated that consistent cautions are sent to MoMo agents on how to ensure security, and to top it up CCTVs will be given some awardees to help create more visibility in their places of business.

Mr. Hini stated that many other products, including loan and insurance packages, will be added to their existing list; and he expects next year to be better considering the work done this year.

Francis Wiredu of Fransco Limited in the Ashanti Region capital emerged overall winner at the MTN Northern Sector Mobile Money Awards ceremony, and drove home a brand-new Hyundai Creta vehicle.

Over 400 other MoMo Merchants and Vendors won various awards including motorbikes, generators, television sets, laptops, CCTV cameras and fridges among others.

Recipients of the various awards expressed their excitement and gratitude to MTN for recognising their work.

Mr. Wiredu, the overall winner, said the award will motivate him to work even harder; and further encouraged other MoMo entrepreneurs to take their work seriously.
