One person is reported to have sustained some injuries after a fuel tanker he and others were travelling in, was involved in an accident on the Tema-Accra motorway this morning, Saturdah, June 5, 2021.
The injured person whose identity is yet to be known is said to have been rushed to a medical facility shortly after the accident occurred. Two other persons, according to persons who claim to be eyewitnesses, were safe as they did not sustain any injury.
The tanker, a DAF branded has GW 9231-12 as its vehicle registration number and embossed with GOIL sticker is said to be on it’s way to some part of Accra to deliver fuel to a fuel station when it was involved in the accident.
A man who declined to mention his name but claimed to be present when the accident occurred, noted that there was an earlier accident that involved a Howo branded tipper truck with registration number GS 7121-19 around the Abattoir area. He continued that the tipper truck was transporting a trip of sand to a location believe to be in Accra when suddenly the driver of the tipper truck lost control of his wheel due to the slippery nature of the road after an early morning rain in that area.
He added that the tipper truck subsequently fell on one of the two lanes of the Tema-Accra motorway while the sand it was transporting entirely covered the inner lane on that same stretch. “I am sure the driver of the fuel tanker did not notice the accident from afar and so when he got closer he tried to avoid hitting the tipper truck, ended up in the ditch” he remarked and added that had the fuel tanker driver spotted the earlier accident the accident would not have occurred.
Commuters from Tema stretch of the motorway had to slowly drive on the shoulders of the road resulting in a huge vehicular traffic. Some persons clad in GOIL branded shirts were seen at the scene.
At the time of filling this story a team from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and a team from the Ghana Police Service were seen arriving at the scene to help pull the tipper from the road to pave way from smooth flow of traffic.
When Plan-B FM attempted to speak to them they said it was too early to male any comment adding that they had just arrived and were more focused on ensuring that the scene was cleared to make way for traffic. They further added that usually with such accident they would require enough time to investigate the cause of it and then would be able to speak to it.
