One dead, 37 injured in gory accident at Suhum Mankrong

One person has died, while 37 others sustained varying degrees of injury in a road accident at Mankrong near Suhum on the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

The injured persons comprise 21 males and 16 females. Occupants of the truck involved in the crash escaped unhurt.

The accident involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck, registration number GW 3969-U. Both vehicles were in motion at the time of the collision.

In a statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Suhum Municipal Fire Station said it received a distress call at 0659 hours. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 0707 hours, with a rescue team led by ADO II Bernard Boamah working alongside other emergency responders to manage the situation.

The deceased was extricated from the wreckage, while the injured were assisted and transported to nearby health facilities, including the Suhum Government Hospital.

Fire officers also cleared debris from the roadway to ensure the safe flow of traffic after the crash.

The front portion of the bus was extensively damaged, while the rear of the truck sustained minor damage. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was travelling at high speed before crashing into the truck.

Fire personnel left the scene at 0857 hours and returned to base at 0952 hours.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has reiterated its commitment to rapid and professional emergency response and has urged motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
