Abubakar Osman, the Deputy Nasara Coordinator for Okaikwei Central of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has provided details about the assault on the party’s First Vice Chairman for Okaikwei Central, Alhaji Harruna Rafik, which occurred on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

According to Abubakar Osman, the vice chairman was allegedly attacked by masked men over a dispute involving a woman believed to be someone’s girlfriend.

He explained that party members had just ended a meeting about 45 minutes earlier and were heading in different directions when the masked men, armed with weapons, approached Alhaji Harruna Rafik.

Speaking about the incident, Osman claimed the attackers confronted Rafik on his way home and accused him of repeatedly ignoring their warnings to stay away from the woman.

“We were on our way when they approached him wearing masks and carrying weapons. I told them that we are all men and that whatever issue they had with him should be settled amicably, but they refused,” Osman told GhanaWeb reporter Amos Manteaw in a telephone interview on May 12, 2026.
“They said they had consistently warned him to stop following the said lady, but he refused to listen. They then slapped him and started beating him,” he added.

Osman further disclosed that after the assault, he questioned Rafik about the identity of the attackers, but Rafik allegedly denied knowing them.

“After the incident, I asked him whether he knew them, but he said he did not know them.”

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after a meeting chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary at Patrick Yaw Boamah’s residence.

According to Rafik, the meeting was convened to address a petition he submitted regarding alleged irregularities in the constituency’s polling station elections.

Rafik sustained injuries during the assault and is currently receiving treatment at Lapaz Community Hospital. He has since reported the matter to the police for investigation.
