The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery attack on a staff member of the Namibian High Commission at the Airport Residential Area in Accra.

Giving details of the crime, Supt Obeng said that the incident occurred on February 23, 2026, at the Airport Residential Area, where the suspect robbed the victim of her belongings, including 2 phones, among other documents.

“On 25th of February 2026, Anielle Nimpungu Amenyanga, accompanied by Justina Anamba, reported that on the 23rd of February 2026, she was attacked and robbed by a young man on a motorbike while walking to the Namibian High Commission at the airport residential area here in Accra.

“According to the complainant, the suspect made away with her handbag containing an iPhone 15 Pro Max valued at GH¢19,000, a Huawei P50 Pro mobile phone valued at GH¢11,000, a Namibian diplomatic passport, a Namibian driver’s license, a bunch of office and house keys, an FBN gold ATM card, a Republic Bank ATM card, and other personal effects,” Supt Obeng added.

Superintendent Obeng explained that upon receiving the complaint, a police team traced the stolen iPhone 15 Pro Max to Galaway near the Agbogbloshie Total Filling Station, leading to the arrest of Miracle Asare, 26, a spare parts dealer at Agbogbloshie.

“Further investigations led to the arrest of suspect Theophilus Darko, who is aged 40, and Benjamin Opoku, aged 26, both phone dealers at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, who were identified as part of the chain through which the stolen phone had passed,” she stated.

She added that the Huawei P50 Pro was also tracked to Dansoman, where Emmanuel Agbangbase, 41, was arrested and the phone retrieved.

He later identified Daniel Ashiagbe, 24, an okada rider, as the person who sold the phone to him.

The police added that during interrogation, Daniel Ashiagbe admitted to committing the robbery on February 23, 2026.

“The suspect further admitted selling the iPhone 15 Pro Max at Kwame Nkrumah Circle near KFC for an amount of GH¢2,500 and the Huawei mobile phone to Emmanuel Agbangbase for 1,000 Ghana cedis. He also stated that he burnt the complainant’s diplomatic passport and the other documents in the handbag,” Supt Obeng disclosed.

Police investigations further revealed that the suspect had been involved in similar robbery activities in parts of Accra.

The command has cautioned persons who engage in dealing in stolen goods to desist from such acts or face prosecution.

“The command further warns individuals who deal in stolen goods that they will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” she cautioned when caught.
