Ohene Kinnah questions Mahama’s stance on LGBTQ activities in Ghana

The Akuffo Addo led Government Are Specialized In Abandoning Projects – John Mahama

The host of Plan B FM’s late afternoon political show dubbed ‘Ebaanosen’ , Ohene Kinnah has questioned former President John Dramani Mahama’s comments on LGBTQ activities in Ghana.

He’s asking whether the NDC flagbearer for the 2024 elections is  denouncing LGBTQ so Ghanaians can vote for him in or he’s really committed to clamping down on the abominable act.

The issue of same sex marriage has become topical in Ghana for the past years.

In mid-June 2021, Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana Alban Bagbin stated that LGBT+ rights “should not be encouraged or accepted by our society” and that “urgent actions are being taken to pass a law to eventually nip the activities of [LGBT+] groups in the bud.” Later that month, eight MPs in the Parliament proposed the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.The eight MPs were Sam Nartey George, Della Sowah, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Alhassan Suhuyini, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Helen Ntoso, and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, all of the National Democratic Congress, as well as John Ntim Fordjour of the New Patriotic Party. On 1 July, Alban Bagbin stated that he expected the law to be passed within six months, telling a prayer meeting of Ghanaian MPs that “the LGBT+ pandemic is worse than COVID-19.”

On 2 August 2021, the bill passed its first reading in the Ghanaian Parliament, being referred to the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

The NDC flagbearer, Mr. Mahama, addressing the matter during a breakfast meeting with the Clergy in Koforidua on Wednesday, January 31, stated that his faith is against same-sex marriages, emphasizing the natural order of creation.

But reacting to the comments on Monday February 5, 2024 , host Ohene Kinnah and co-host Aduana Ba asked the former President to come clean on his stance on same sex marriage.

“It’s the same Mahama who said ‘ come election year, politicians tell some lies just to win votes’, since the Anti-LGBTQ Bill was introduced in Parliament, has the former President ever spoken in support of the Bill?” They quizzed

They went further to asked whether it was the same John Mahama denouncing LGBTQ so Ghanaians can vote for him then once he gets the presidency, he turns around to appease his European friends.
