Two suspected criminals said to be part of a gang of robbers that engaged in a shootout with the police at Mankranso in the Ashanti Region have died of their injuries.

The suspects, who had sustained injuries following a said shootout with the police, were sent to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital for treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Their bodies have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police investigations are underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accomplices and retrieve the guns, according to the police.

A police situational report seen by Graphic Online said the Ashanti South Regional Police Command gathered intelligence on a suspect, Osman Majid Abdul Sadik, alias Cross, who was wanted in connection with several robberies and killings in the Mankranso area.

The command identified three hideouts in Offinso, Ashanti North Region, where the suspect and his gang were believed to be hiding.

“An intelligence-led operation was conducted, and led three officers and other ranks to the area. The team, comprising four service vehicles (branded and unbranded), simultaneously raided the identified locations.

“At Offinso Anyankaso, the suspect fired a gunshot from his room and attempted to escape through the ceiling.  The police tactically returned fire, and two suspects sustained gunshot injuries,” the police sitrep said.

It said a pump-action gun with six rounds of ammunition, one black Smith and Wesson pistol, 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an unmarked pistol, and two spent cartridges.

Further search in the room, it said revealed three smart mobile phones, two key pad phones, mobile phone accessories, one apple laptop, one machete, a smock and an ash singlet with talismans, one black body armor, one brown body armor, two long boots (desert and black), a picture frame of his gang, a Ghana Card bearing the picture of the suspect Osman Majid and cash in the sum of GH¢2,680.00.

The suspects, the report said during interrogation gave their names as Abdul Sadik alias Cross (25 years) and Abdulai Sadik (20 years), were identified.

“Cross admitted to multiple robberies in the Manso area and confessed to killing three people at Mankranso. He also implicated accomplices Kingkong, Roy, Fii, Raph, Koboo, Ali and Ike, claiming some guns are with Kingkong, Koboo and Ali at a mining site in Manso,” it said.
