Collusion between a Sprinter bus heading towards the northern part of the country and a truck travelling in the opposite direction has resulted in the death of seventeen (17) passengers on the Offinso-Abofour road in the Ashanti Region today, Monday, November 1, 2021.

Fourteen (14) other passengers who were also travelling on the same bus are said to be battling for their lives in a medical facility believe to be the St. Patrick Hospital. According to the police team that visited the accident scene, the 14 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Confirming the accident, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Edmund Nyamekye, Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Offinso, stated that the Sprinter bus was travelling towards the northern part of the country when it collided with a truck which was moving towards the opposite direction.

According to him, 17 passengers died on the spot while 14 other passengers were rushed to a medical facility. He continued that the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue for preservation, autopsy and identification.

Giving more details about the accident, (DSP) Nyamekye mentioned that preliminary investigations the police conducted, revealed that the driver of the trailer may have been dozing off, which according to him resulted in the collusion between the Sprinter bus and the truck.

He explained further that as a result of the collusion, the driver of the Sprinter bus has also died.
