Obuasi: Police Rescue 3 From Lynching Over Fake Currency MoMo Fraud

Three friends have been arrested by police in Obuasi after they tried using fake currency to engage in Mobile Money fraud at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, reports.

Nancy Owusu 28 years, Eunice Sarfo 33 years and Cecilia Agyemang 29 years who were nearly lynched by angry residents, were rescued by the assemblyman for the area with the support of armed police and taken into lawful custody.

Police situational report sighted by MyNewsGh.com reveals that at the weekend, the three ladies entered Sanso a town near Obuasi and they were using fake currency to transact MTN money transfer.

They were however arrested and kept in one Nana Akwasi Agyeman’s room for safekeeping as the town folks numbering over 500 are threatening to lynch them.

ASP Duke Amoo in charge Obuasi West patrol team proceeded to the town but the town folks prevented police from bringing out the suspects.

The Obuasi East patrol team was called to assist but the town folks seeing police again increased their numbers as some of the town folks began to throw all sorts of objects at police and their vehicle.

The team retreated and asked  Nana Akwasi Agyeman the Sanaahene of the town whom the suspects are being kept in his home to continue to keep them in his room and inform police when the number of the town folks had gone down while police took coverage at some vantage area monitoring the situation from afar.

Later, Thomas Ofori who is the Assemblyman for the area, Nana Akwasi Agyeman, Sanaahene and Solomon Obeng all of Sanso were able to bring the suspects out into a taxi and a private car and escorted them to the station with the assistance of the police.

They are expected to be arraigned before a court today January 31, 2022.
