An alleged clash between some illegal miners and a security team manning the concession of Anglogold Ashanti (AGA) in the Obuasi East district has left two (2) persons seriously injured.

The incident happened during a negotiation with the management of AGA for the release of some illegal miners who got trapped while sneaking into the mining company’s site.

A leader of the Obuasi Small Scale Miners Association, Nana Anima Awere who narrated the clash to Adom FM  said that the miners were said to have been trapped after sneaking into an underground through an entry called ‘Cut door’ or ‘Ramp’.

According to Nana Anima Awere, while discussions were ongoing on a violent confrontation ensued when some galamseyers who were not part of the entourage arrived at the venue and shot at one of the AGA’s water tankers.

Three galamseyers were subsequently shot in the process. Two of them are in critical condition at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Both of them were shot in the abdomen while the other sustained gun wounds in the leg.

Police in the area have commenced investigations into the shooting incident.
