NPP Communicator, Richard Anning, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his officers to act with utmost professionalism as the nation prepares for the upcoming by-election in the Akwatia constituency.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Anning stressed that the credibility of Ghana’s security apparatus depends largely on how the police conduct themselves, especially in politically sensitive periods.
According to him, the Ghana Police Service has often been perceived as politically inclined, a situation that undermines public trust. He noted that the only period of “decency” in the Service was during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when Dr. George Akuffo Dampare served as IGP.
Mr. Anning further reminded the IGP that Ghana is governed by a constitution that is supreme and must be respected by all institutions, including the police. He expressed concern that the Service currently lacks the level of professionalism expected of a neutral state security agency.
He therefore urged the police leadership to demonstrate fairness, impartiality, and adherence to the law before, during, and after the Akwatia by-election to safeguard Ghana’s democracy
