NPP’s boycott of National Economic Dialogue worrying – Nyarko Ampem

NPP’s boycott of National Economic Dialogue worrying – Nyarko Ampem
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Deputy Finance Minister-designate Thomas Nyarko Ampem has expressed concern over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) absence from the National Economic Dialogue (NED), calling it a troubling development.

The two-day dialogue, led by President John Dramani Mahama, aims to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges and chart a course for sustainable growth under the theme “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”

Speaking on The Point of View on  Channel One TV, Nyarko Ampem criticized the NPP’s decision to boycott the event, stressing the need for inclusive discussions on economic policies and reforms.

“For me, it is a worry that our friends on the other side [Minority] decided to stay out of this important forum,” he said.

He also recalled a similar boycott by the NPP during the Royal Senchi Economic Forum when Seth Terkper was Finance Minister, lamenting that history was repeating itself.

“There was a similar forum at Royal Senchi they boycotted when Seth Terkper was the finance minister. And unfortunately, they haven’t been here, too,” he stated.

Nyarko Ampem emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to implement the economic reset agenda, urging collective participation to achieve meaningful results.

“There has to be sustained efforts to make sure that it yields the needed results. That is why President John Dramani Mahama needs that consensus for everyone to be on the same page.”
