A socio-political analyst, Alex Emmanuel Nti, has sparked debate by suggesting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should have undertaken a “Sorry Tour” instead of a “Thank You Tour” to apologise to Ghanaians for perceived mistakes and controversies during their tenure.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show with host Nhyiraba Kofi Boakye (NKB), Nti attributed the NPP’s electoral loss to the arrogance of power-led economic hardship. He explained that policies such as the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) brought economic hardship to Ghanaian electorates, contributing to their downfall.
Nti also criticised the party’s leadership, citing the refusal to withdraw the services of a finance minister who faced opposition from within the party. He believes this led to bad leadership and flawed policies.
“The arrogance that made them pass the E-Levy into law, like the DDEP, brought economic hardship to the Ghanaian electorates, leading to their downfall,” Nti stated.
“Their refusal to withdraw the services of a finance minister whose own party people rose against him led to bad leadership as their policies.”
Nti’s suggestion for a “Sorry Tour” instead of a “Thank You Tour” aims to seek forgiveness from the electorates for the party’s perceived mistakes. This call is likely to generate further debate among NPP supporters and critics alike.
