NPP MP Asked To Resign Over E-Levy Comments

NPP MP Asked To Resign Over E-Levy Comments
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The member of parliament for Amasaman constitituency Hon. Akwasi Afrifa Mensah has come under strong criticism by his constitituents. Recently, the youth in his area called on the NPP MP to make his position on the E Levy known to the people he represents. The MP finally made his position known while on Kesben FM. He didn’ t mince word to declare his full support for the new tax.

Speaking on the floor of parliament later, Hon. Afrifa Mensah said he expected some roads in his constituency to see facelift after the E Levy is passed.

But the position of the MP has further angered the youth in his constitituency. In a press release, leader of the youth, Thomas Abroni described the position of their MP as insensitive. He said it was disheartening for the MP who was elected to represent his constituents in parliament has taken a notorious position adopted by the government simply because he is NPP MP. The youth has called on him to retract his stance and apologize to the good people of Amasaman constitituency.

Below is the statement from the youth who call themselves Concerned Youth of Amasaman (COYOAMAC)

” Concerned Youth of Amasaman Constituency (COYOAMAC) is dismayed by the response from Hon. Akwasi Mensa Afrifa, MP for Amasaman Constituency, on the E- LEVY brouhaha. The MP in responding to our previous Press Release, on Kessben FM 92. 9MHZ, stated categorically, that he was for the NOTORIOUS E- LEVY, and that the youth should pay in order to get access to Developmental Projects. COYOAMAC sees this comment from the Honorable MP as reckless, insensitive, disheartening, unfortunate and most importantly myopic.

The MP was voted into Parliament as a Legislature (Law Maker) and to champion the socio economic well being of his people. How do you tell people who are highly impoverished due to the mismanagement of Government and the silence of a rubber stamp MP, to pay E- LEVY? Is that not insensitive? We expect the people who represent us in Parliament to feel our pain and to be our mouth piece all the time. It is clear from the response of the MP, that he has decided to take the side of Government and disregard the sentiment of those who voted him into office.

We ask him, through this medium to retract and render an unqualified apology to the people of Amasaman Constituency, or resign accordingly. The Youth of Amasaman Constituency, can no longer associate themselves with a well fed, well paid, and a reckless MP who will prefer to, instead of siding with his people, put his brains in the political pocket of the few in Government, just to sustain his daily bread. COYOAMAC, calls on the MP, to resign honorably or be kicked out dishonorably, come 2024“
