The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially distanced itself from comments made by its Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, following a controversial media appearance in which he criticised Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.

In a statement released by the party’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP described Abronye’s remarks as “unfortunate and unprovoked,” and emphasised that they do not reflect the values or official position of the party.

“The New Patriotic Party holds religious leadership in high regard and recognises the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the broader religious community to national development, peace, and moral guidance,” the statement read.

The party stressed that while it upholds freedom of expression among its members, that freedom must be exercised with “utmost responsibility, respect, and decorum,” especially when addressing figures of such spiritual and national importance.

The NPP urged the public—particularly members of the Christian community—to view Abronye DC’s remarks as personal and not representative of the party’s stance.

The statement reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to respectful dialogue across all sectors of Ghanaian society and pledged continued cooperation with religious institutions for the nation’s progress.

Abronye’s comments, made on Ohia TV, sparked public outcry and backlash on social media, with many calling for an official response from the party.
