The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated formal processes to expel former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, from the party following comments he made in a recent television interview.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken serious notice of remarks made by Prof. Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, where he reportedly described the party as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.
According to the statement, Prof. Frimpong Boateng further made allegations suggesting that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
The party has categorically rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. It stressed that the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, a process it says has been acknowledged by all candidates who participated as well as well-meaning members of the party.
The NPP described the comments and conduct of Prof. Frimpong Boateng as reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the party. As a result, the party said it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence disciplinary proceedings aimed at expelling him, in strict adherence to due process.
The development marks a significant escalation in tensions between the party and the former minister, who has been a prominent figure within the NPP over the years.
