Not All Covid-19 Cases Were Contracted On Campuses – Regional Health Administrator

Deputy Regional Director of Health in the central region, Mr. Goody Sarpong, has alleged that the first few confirmed cases of COVID-19 in senior high schools in the region were imported from home.

According to him, not all confirmed cases of COVID-19 in academic institutions in the Central Region were contracted on campus as many people suppose.

Speaking to host, Samuel Ohene Addo, on PLAN B FM’s morning show, NKOSUO NSEM, the health administrator revealed that timely contact tracing efforts showed that, the first few students to have tested positive for COVID-19 in senior high schools in the region, contracted it from  relatives who had tested positive for the novel disease earlier before the resumption of schools after lockdown restrictions were lifted.

“We were surprised to discover that first case of COVID-19, was contracted by a student whose relative contracted the virus, after contact tracing. We also followed up on the next few cases to discover the same situation to our surprise”, he stated.

On matters of the readiness of the health directorate to deal with the rising number of infections among students, Mr. Sarpong indicated that, the three-way strategy of testing, contact-tracing and treatment employed by the regional health officers has  borne fruits and expressed appreciation to the various district assemblies and philanthropists who have supported the region’s fight against the spread of the virus.
