For a record extending 10th time, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are champions of Africa after delivering a stunning performance to beat host nation Morocco.
Nigeria successfully came back from two goals down to beat Morocco 3-2 to get back to the apex of women’s football on the African continent.
Rolling into the final as heavy favourites, Nigeria got stunned twice early in the first half when Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy scored for Morocco in the 12th and 24th minute respectively.
Nigeria scored twice in seven minutes to level the game first through Esther Okoronkwo in the 64thminute from the penalty spot and Florence Ijamilusi in the 71st minute.

The comeback was completed when Woman of the Match Award winner Okoronkwo floated a cross deep into Morocco’s penalty box to find Jennifer Echegini to lash home the winner after coming off the bench in the 59th minute.

For Morocco, losing to Nigeria represents another heartbreaking loss in the final after losing the 2022 edition’s final game to South Africa. The North African nation is still waiting to win its first ever Women’s AFCON title.
