The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will resume the provision of its services to members of the general public effective Monday, March 15, 2021.
The NIA made this announcement through a press statement signed by its management and dated on March 9, 2021.
Touching on the types of services it intends to resume its services on, the NIA press statement mentioned that it will resume premium registration, update of personal records and replacement of cards. It mentioned the rest as collection of cards and issuance of Non-Citizen Ghana Card.
The NIA was set up in 2003 under the Office of the President with the mandate to issue national ID cards and manage the National Identification System (NIS).
It resulted in the passing of the National Identification Authority Act, 2006 (Act 707) to give it the necessary legal premises on which to operate. The National Identity Register Act, 2008 (Act 750) was also passed to give it authority for collection of personal and biometric data and to ensure the protection of privacy and personal information of enrollees/applicants.
