Next NDC government will revoke the appointments of EC boss and Chief Justice – NDC Communicator

Next NDC government will revoke the appointments of EC boss and Chief Justice – NDC Communicator

Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkonoo’s is seeking a request from President Nana Akufo-Addo to appoint five judges to the Supreme Court.

The nominees according to the Chief Justice include; their Lordships Edward Amoako Asante, Eric Kyei Baffour, their Ladyships Angelina Mensah Homiah, Cyra Pamela Koranteng and Afua Asare Botwe.

Chief Justice’s actions undermine the constitutional framework designed to maintain the Judiciary’s independence and integrity.

Chief Justice is not named in the appointment process of judges to the apex court, questioning the constitutionality and appropriateness of the Chief Justice’s unilateral request.

In a panel discussion on Plan B Fm’s ‘Nkosuonsem’ hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi,  a communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for Kpone-Katamanso Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Samuel Aborbi popularly known as ‘Aban’ stated clearly that the Chief Justice and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission must work independently but under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo, these institutions are more or less working for a political party which goes contrary to the constitution.

“The next NDC administration will revoke the appointment of Chief Justice Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkonoo and the Chairperson of Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensah” he indicated.
