A new seven-member Governing Board of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) was inaugurated on Monday, May 19, 2025, with a clear task to improve revenue generation and streamline the Authority’s operations.

The Board is chaired by Mr Fredrick Amissah. Other members include the Director-General of the NLA, Mr Mohammed Abdul-Salam; Director of the Revenue Policy Division at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Edward Abrowkwah; Ms Doreen Panyin Annan from the Ministry of the Interior; Solicitor-General Ms Helen Akpene Awo Ziwu, representing the Office of the Attorney-General; Mr Gerald Baffour Awuah Bonsu, a nominee of the President; and Member of Parliament, Hon Faustina Elipklim Akurugu.

The inauguration was conducted on behalf of the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Mr Ampem, speaking after administering the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, called on the new Board to reposition the NLA as an efficient and responsive public institution.

He urged the members to introduce fresh ideas and provide sound leadership that would help the Authority contribute more meaningfully to government revenue.

He stated that the NLA should not operate merely as a revenue-generating agency, but must also support national development by helping fund public projects.

“The Authority must modernise its systems, improve digital services, and address illegal lottery operations decisively,” Mr Ampem said.

Responding on behalf of the Board, Mr Amissah thanked the President and the Minister for Finance for the opportunity to serve.

“We are honoured to take on this responsibility,” he said. “Our goal is to operate in the interest of Ghanaians through transparency, accountability and practical innovation.”

According to Mr Amissah, the Board intends to increase revenue from both traditional and digital lottery platforms.

He also said efforts would be stepped up to curb illegal gaming activities and improve the Authority’s systems to make lottery participation safer and easier for all citizens.

The new board is expected to provide direction and oversight to enable the NLA to meet its targets and continue contributing to Ghana’s economic progress
