Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has officially sworn in the new Board of Directors for the National Sports Authority (NSA), marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to revitalise and professionalise sports administration in Ghana.

The(15) fifteen-member board is chaired by Dr. Fred Awaah, with the Director General of the NSA, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, serving as a key member.

Other appointed members include Bawa Fuseini, Samuel Duku Sarfo, Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh, Is-Haku Al-Hassan, Dr Luguterah Austin Wontepaga, Samson Deen, and Richard Akpokavie.

During the swearing-in ceremony, newly appointed Chairman Dr. Fred Awaah outlined an ambitious vision for the board.

“We’ll work effectively to move sports from a social entertainment enterprise to one that directly contributes to national economic development,” he stated, emphasizing the need for strategic reforms to unlock the sector’s potential for job creation, revenue generation, and infrastructure growth.

The inauguration aligns with ongoing initiatives under Minister Kofi Adams’ leadership, including enhanced transparency measures and the push for sustainable funding in sports.

The new board is expected to oversee the management of national sports facilities, promote mass participation, and support Ghana’s athletes on the international stage.

Mr Deen, who currently serves as President of the African Paralympic Committee and the Ghana Paralympic Committee, brings extensive governance experience and a proven track record in advancing inclusion, athlete welfare, and international recognition for African sport.

Reacting to his reappointment, Mr Deen reaffirmed his commitment to youth development, good governance, and called on corporate Ghana to partner Government in unlocking the full potential of sport as a driver of national unity and economic growth.

The inauguration follows the Cabinet’s approval of nominees to the Board, in line with Section 4 of the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934), which mandates the establishment of a Governing Board to oversee NSA’s operations and ensure efficiency.
