Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Council, has been invested and inducted into office as the second Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was the special guest of honour at the event, which took place on 21st April, 2023, at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, UEW.
Neenyi Ghartey VII succeeds Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda, who served in that capacity from 2010 to 2015.

Neenyi Ghartey VII expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him and the privilege of having such an array of dignitaries witness his inauguration as the second Chancellor of UEW.
He indicated that none of the positions he currently holds was among his aspirations growing up. He highlighted, however, that this had not stopped him from stepping up to the plate to deliver on his charge and lead the people of Effutu. He pledged to uphold the obligations and expectations of the noble office.
“I know that the responsibilities that come with this role cannot be underestimated, especially when the university has to contend with and survive in these challenging times of global financial constraints and fierce competition from Ghanaian universities for students.
“This necessitates that we chart innovative and successful ways of dealing with the challenges, through the efforts and dedication of all stakeholders, to develop the power of the brain and improve learning as we work towards executing the mandate of this noble institution,” he stated.

Neenyi Ghartey VII iterated his commitment to keeping UEW as Africa’s top institution for teacher education.
“This is a university with promise for the government, the people of Effutu and the nation. I pledge my support to work tirelessly and passionately with the UEW Council, Management and all stakeholders to propel the university to higher heights by achieving its vision and mission,” he promised.
The Paramount Chief of Effutu indicated his resolve to advance the goals of the university by tapping into his wealth of experience over the years. “Thus, I will use my expertise and experience to curtail intra-litigations and to ensure that there is a conducive environment for staff to fraternise without any reservations.”
The Effutu Oma Odefe, Neenyi Ghartey VII, is known in private life as Daniel Kobena Bortse Ghartey. He was born on 3rd April, 1956 to two natives of the Effutu Simpa State – Mr. Dolphin Kobena Ghartey and Madam Ekua Esaaba, both of blessed memory.
